A great day out at JD Classics in Maldon
Eighteen members of TIGOSE and the 96 Club ventured to Maldon for a fascinating visit to JD Classics. We were welcomed by Chris Ward, Operations Manager, who also exercises the many racing cars in the JD Stable, with some success on circuits in the UK and further afield. He was joined by James Wheeler, Sales Consultant and Mathew from the workshops.
JD Classics was started by Derek Hood some 32 years ago, who at the time was an Essex dentist and enjoyed nothing more than detailing the classic cars he bought before selling on just as hobby. He sold a Mk2 Jaguar, bought a Mini Cooper, sold that and bought a Lotus Cortina and the rest is history.
JD Classics now occupies a site at Maldon in Essex and has established itself as one of the foremost restorers and dealers in classic cars. Where else would you find two Ferrari 250 SWBs sitting next to each other in the showroom, alongside the ex-Bruce McLaren E type and a works Lotus Cortina?
The group were treated to a full tour, including the body shop, the engine shop, car preparation area and the seven showrooms. As you would expect the place was immaculate and you very quickly run out of superlatives to describe what is before you. Without exception, members of staff all said hello as you entered their various areas or walked past and they were very happy to receive comments or discuss what they were working on.
Another great visit arranged for TIGOSE and 96 Club members, part of the regular programme of interesting, enjoyable and informative events.
