Report on the Belgravia Classic Car Show

Belgravia Classic Car Show

Exceptional classics gather in the heart of London at the first Belgravia Classic Car Show

Sunday June 25 saw some of the finest and most unusual classics gather in the Belgrave Square Garden for the inaugural Belgravia Classic Car Show.

The garden’s inner circle hosted close to 100 vintage and classic vehicles, which came from local owners in London and from across the country. The outer circle was also used as the inner garden became over-subscribed and cars also formed a thrilling display on the road around the square, in specially arranged parking.

Chestertons were generous sponsors of the event and the Grosvenor and The Belgrave Square Garden Committee invited the 96 Club and Waterloo Classics which both brought many of their members’ cars, along with The International Guild of Specialist Engineers (TIGOSE), which had a stand among the many food, drink, ice cream, and even cigar stalls.

Live music from The Mississippi Swamp Dogs Jazz Band and swing dancing helped keep the crowds entertained in between admiring the extraordinary array of classics.

Craig McWilliam, CEO of the Grosvenor Estate further endorsed the event by bringing his fine Maserati Indy along and Amanda Bond Elliott, Chairman of The Belgrave Square Garden Committee kindly presented the Chestertons trophy for the Most Exceptional Car. This went to Nigel Wills’ 1930 Talbot 90, a car that placed 3rd in the Le Mans 24 Hours race of that year and has competed there recently, with Nigel at the wheel.

Other highlight cars included a Ferrari 250 SWB, a 7.3-litre V-12 engined Rolls-Royce Phantom 11 landaulette, the unique WB120 Special, a Facel Vega 11 amongst many other outstanding classics.

Michael Scott

Amanda Bond Elliott and Craig McWilliam spoke of their delight at rounding off June’s events in the Garden with such a successful first classic car show and thanked Michael Scott of the 96 Club and TIGOSE and his team for drafting in so many unusual cars and marshalling them all into place so expertly.

We look forward to next year’s edition.
