Pebble Beach/Monterey auctions, a summary

A summary of the news from Pebble Beach/Monterey, August 2014.

Gooding did not manage to sell the Ferrari 365 P Berlinetta Tre Posti ex-Chinetti (the maximum offer was for $22.5m, and was not accepted). Neither did it sell the 1962 250 GT SWB ($10m) or the 1995 McLaren F1 (Bianco Marlboro, $10.75m). Basically, out of four cars over $10m, Gooding only managed to sell one (the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider, for $15,180,000).

There is a new world-record for the E-Type S1 3.8 Roadster flat-floor, with outside bonnet lock, hardtop, tool kit and welded louvres. The price: $528,000 (£316k).

Other records also for the Lamborghini Countach Periscopio ($1,870,000/£1,119,000), a 400GT Coupé ($869,000/£520,000) and a Miura SV ($2,090,000/£1,250,000).

Coming down the price list, the following records are also notable: Aston Martin DB5 ($1,650.000/£988,000), Ferrari Daytona ($ 962,500/£ 576,000), Dino 206 GT ($ 748,000/£ 448,000), Mercedes 190SL Roadster ($ 341,000/£ 204,000).

Special mention for RM Auctions: Steve McQueen’s 1967 275 GTB/4 was sold for $ 10,175,000 (£ 6,092,000) and a 275 GTB/C Speciale for $ 26,400,000 (£ 15,808,000).
