Majestic Motors Limited: not just a restoration company
Classic car & motorbike restoration, modification and customisation in Kenilworth, Warwickshire, UK
The uniqueness of Majestic Motors over the competition is their engineering background: they are not just a team of mechanics, but professionals with over 10 years of experience in the design and development of cars and bikes for some of the UK’s top marques.
Majestic Motors is run by Ben Thompson and is based near Kenilworth in Warwickshire. They work with customers based in Coventry, Birmingham, Solihull, Leamington, Stratford Upon Avon and the West Midlands, but also have customers from all over the country, attracted by their unique expertise, experience and ethos.
They specialise in classic cars and motorbikes, offering a range of services to preserve, restore or enhance their customers’ vehicle. Majestic Motors can also help with kit cars, race preparation and design/manufacturing of replacement parts and components.
Majestic Motors is owned and run by proprietor Ben Thompson. Ben has extensive experience in the automotive industry, having worked in Racing and Automotive design for over 10 years.
With a genuine passion and obsession with cars, bikes and generally anything with an engine, Ben Thompson started at a very young age; by 15, he had started to build his first car (a kit-car) and by the age of 18 he had it through the first MOT and fully road legal.
Whilst at University studying for a degree in Automotive Engineering Ben started his professional career working for Taylor’s Foundry Motorsport. he was employed as a race mechanic helping to support 14 cars across the Caterham Superlight and Roadsport classes.
After his degree (a 1st Class Honors) we went on to work at TVR in Blackpool, which at the time was a medium sized British sports car manufacturer. During his time at TVR he worked on many projects including the design of the rollcage for the T350, Sagaris and Typhoon models. He also worked in engine development for some time on the 4.0L supercharged engine, and built race engines for British GT cars. Whilst at TVR he was trained as a composite laminator using both carbon and glass fiber. Ben worked for the factory race teams, supporting the Cerbera Speed 12 in its final outings, the T440Rs in British GT and SPA 1000 hrs endurance race, and later 3 seasons with the TVR Tuscan Challenge Championship.
In 2005 he moved to the Midlands to work for Marcos Engineering, an up-and-coming sports car company with a new model in development. Employed as Principal Engineer, he undertook multiple projects across all areas of the car, from powertrain, to suspension to HVAC and interior trim.
In 2007 he joined Triumph Motorcycles as a Design Engineer, and – in the seven years he worked there – he progressed through Project Engineer to his final role as Senior Project Engineer. He has worked on various models including the Rocket 3 Touring, Trophy and Tiger Explorer. On the Trophy project he was responsible for the entire suspension system and component design. He also developed Triumph Dynamic Luggage System, a method of controlling pannier movement to enhance stability and has a Patent in his name. In his final role as Senior Project Engineer he was responsible for a team of 10 Engineers designing and developing a new model.
In 2008 he supported a work colleague in the New Era Motorcycle racing club, Sound of Thunder (SOT) and F600 Supersport championships. The rider, Marcus Wade, having never won a race before, went on to win the SOT championship and came runner-up in F600 narrowly missing out on the win after a crash in the last race.
In 2009 he worked for the TAG Triumph, a Motorcycle race team as a race mechanic, supporting Peter ‘Pesky’ Ward and Paul Young in the British Supersport Championship.
Since 2010 he has been involved in Gravity Racing. They have designed, built and raced ‘Soapybox’ and competed in events all over the country reaching speeds of over 50 mph. Full details can be found at www.facebook.com/soapybox
